Hello, I recently installed thinkfan and after some fiddling I finally got it to work. I wrote a suitable /etc/thinkfan.conf and also added options thinkpad_acpi fan_control=1 to /etc/modprobe.d/thinkpad_acpi.conf.
After the update systemctl status thinkfan returns this:

I've had a look at the thinkpad_acpi and it is running, but I'm thinking fan_control=1 is not being passed to it somehow. How I get around this I do not know.
