Hi there. I'm new to Arch, but not GNU/Linux. I've been having a lot of problems with Steam games, particularly source games. I haven't tried running any non-source games, but I'm downloading one right now. Whenever I attempt to boot up Half-Life 2, Garry's Mod, TF2, or CS:S (this is all I have installed currently) it outputs a series of 4's. I believe this is a problem with the font I'm using and that it's actually trying to give me a normal error. The game does not "crash", it continues to say I am in whatever steam game until I close the error message. I've been trying to mess with it, but now Steam has (once again) frozen and is unable to be killed unless I reboot which is becoming very frustrating.
Here is a screenshot of said error.

Try Wine and run the Windows version of Steam in it, sometimes works better than the Linux native version.

I was thinking of trying Wine, but I've heard that it causes performance problems. Is there any truth behind this?

Stuff may run somewhat slower in Wine, depending on how it's programmed. Some things might even ran somewhat faster, admitted that's rare..
However, it's not like things will run really slow like in a VM. I play Guild Wars 2 in Wine and it's totally fine, and I only have a 660M mobile graphics card.

I'll try Wine if I can't figure this out. Thanks Jason, but that hasn't helped. I think it might be problems with my driver now. Steam freezes when I try to run a game and I have to constantly reboot.

Solved. I had everything installed except for lib32-intel-dri, which I was sure I'd installed. Everything works great, thanks guys.
