At some Wine update Steam now crashes whenever you press a key after a game has started that uses Steam overlay.
Disabling Steam overlay in the game properties in Steam helps, but there's another workaround if you want to continue overlay:
In the game, bring up the Steam overlay with a mouse click instead of shift+tab key. Mouse keys won't make Steam games crash! After you have brought up the overlay once, the game should be "immune" and you can now press keys without it crashing! Two caveats:
1) I don't know if this really works for all Steam games.
2) if a game doesn't offer you a method to bring up the overlay with a mouse click, you're screwed. However, you could try to bind shift+tab to a mouse button and see if you can get around it that way! Share the knowledge if that works for you too.

Actually after yesterday's Wine update it seems that games can now crash from mouse clicks or even movement too, lol. Gratulations!

Now it works again, and even better than before it seems...
