I noticed SD card reader doesn't work anymore on ThinkPad T431s. When I remove module sdhci_pci and shdci and add them back, I get following errors in dmesg log:
https://gist.github.com/sokac/e0e010b03ce9d59737b0
Commands I use to remove module/add back.
rmmod sdhci_pci sdhci
modprobe sdhci_pci sdhci
It's the same behavior when laptop is plugged in AC.

I think that somehow the PCI/VEN number gets changed under certain circumstances. This causes the device not to be recognized. I have experienced this problem already on my X220 using Windows 7. I had to edit a driver file for the Ricoh SD card reader to work.
See if the following bug report offers any solutions or workarounds.

EDIT: I wasn't using arch when I posted the above. I booted my laptop with arch just now, and the Ricoh SD card reader is working as expected here on my ThinkPad X220. I don't normally use my SD card reader in arch.
See if the following info from www.thinkwiki.org is any help: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_ge … rd_working
FTR, I do have both "/dev/disk/by-label/KODAK" and "/dev/mmcblk0p1" on my system. Of course, KODAK being the label of the SD card I am using at the moment. I am able to browse the files on the SD card with my file manager, Thunar.
