Hello guys,
I've been trying to get Portal 2 to run under Steam (not within Wine).
I've got 32-bit libraries installed, including my drivers (nvidia proprietary).
I did some research but I haven't found much and the things I found wouldn't help in my case.
I've also got the direct rendering problem popping up every time I start steam.
Following this https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/St … ime_issues hasn't helped though.
I'm probably missing something but I've been looking into this for some hours. :/ Maybe someone will see what I'm missing.

Get lucky? I don't think that's enough. ![]()
You redirected me to a link that redirects me to a link.
Can you actually tell me what to do? Have you tried this yourself? If so, what was the result?
Can you at least tell me what the equivalent to this would be on Arch?
sudo apt-get install libc6-dev-i386Offline
What graphics card do you have?
Have you tried reinstalling the nvidia drivers? Did you install the 32-bit version of your cpu driver?

NVIDIA GTX 660.
Yes, I have tried reinstalling them. Both 64 and 32 bit drivers. (As mentioned, I'm using the proprietary ones.)
By CPU I assume you mean GPU?
Offline
No, CPU. You need the 32 bit driver for your cpu as well. It could be that your graphics card isn't taking over and it's trying to use the integrated graphics. Have you tried disabling the video card and using just your integrated graphics for troubleshooting purposes?
What libraries did you install? did you make sure to get lib32-mesa-libgl?

Well, no, my portal 2 runs fine, from what i could see is
Could not find required OpenGL entry point 'glColorMaskIndexedEXT'!which shouldn't be the case, since you have a GF 660 ... for a second i thought you might have an older nvidia card, that was just phased out, like I do, so when i installed the legacy branch with the new update, i can run portal 2 just fine.
OR
wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32meaning you are trying to load a 32 bit lib in a 64 bit app or viceversa. (is your steam installation ok?).
PS: does other source engine games work? like Team fortress 2, etc. ?

Could you please specify which package you are referring to? I wouldn't know that there are actual driver packages for the CPU. Isn't that in the kernel?
I'll check if I have lib32-mesa-libgl installed when I get back on the computer.
Edit: It's not. And this is why:
:: lib32-mesa-libgl and lib32-nvidia-libgl are in conflict (lib32-libgl). Remove lib32-nvidia-libgl? [y/N]is your steam installation ok?

Steam starts just fine for me, no the only problem that I have is that it tells me that direct rendering is disabled (but that's probably the same source of problem for the error than it is for Portal 2 not starting).
I haven't tried other source games. I don't play them at the moment.
Edit: I don't know why, but it works now. Something must have been funny yesterday.
Since posting this I haven't done ANYTHING with pacman nor downloaded anything from the AUR.
The only thing I tried, before I posted this, was to disable steam runtime and install all the needed libraries, to see if the libraries shipped by steam were old or outdated. I got the same error as before. Direct rendering disabled, and everything I've posted in my first post.
I enabled steam runtime again, still not working (why would it, since I didn't change anything).
And now, this morning, it works. It's probably the shutdown/boot process I should have done yesterday.
I'd really like to understand what was wrong ... >.>

A lot of the runtimes steam ships are too outdated to run on are, so using archs versions allows it to run.

You got me wrong. It ran with the outdated versions. But with an error. The same happened though when not using runtime. So no, that wasn't the case for me.
