sleep issue after upgrade to linux > 3.15.1 (amd c-50 on Acer ao722)

On June 21st, I installed linux 3.15.1. Since then i've been on 3.14.x, since sleep mode doesn't work for any for versions higher than 3.15.1.
I haven't look into it much yet. I was hoping the problem would eventually just go away, but it's still a problem on 3.16.4.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Here are more details on the laptop: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Acer_AO722-BZ454
I am using xf86-video-ati.

I've been meaning to switch back to catalyst for a while, because performance and battery life were significantly better back when I was using catalyst.

After installing the newest version (catalyst 14.9-11), sleeping is working as expected after a quick test.

I know this doesn't solve the actual problem, but it's a solution that works for me.
