Slow Gnome Shell (3.12) startup

Hi folks,
I'm creepy because of loooong and slooow gnome-shell startup > it means after entering password in GDM and hitting Enter key. It takes more than a minute from password to topbar with background. This happened suddenly and I don't remember when it was (maybe after 3.10 to 3.12 upgrade). I'm 100% sure that in 3.10 GS startup was really fast with the same configuration as now.

What I tried:
- disabling all gs plugins > no effect, so I have at this moment 12 plugins back on
- installed from aur 'gnome-session-properties' and disabled session restore after reboot
- also disabled few startup programs in 'gnome-session-properties'
- removed tracker and all dependencies (gnome-music/documents.. etc.) because a lot of I/O at the boot.. I dont't need that anyway
- tried mas updatedb & man-db and then unmasked because these services are before gdm start
- also tried https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 2#p1410502 > this helped a little

Can anybody suggest me some improvement in my Arch setup? Thanks!

I have similar problem, but before gdm load.
Taking a look at systemd-analyse plot, I see that the boot to gdm takes 30 secs, but gdm sometimes takes another 30 secons or even more than a minute.

Mine is 4x Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40GHz, 8GB RAM, using only Intel graphics (I don't use discrete ATI)
And I don't have SSD yet. It's classic WD 5400RPM HDD

So why is it so slow?
Are you sure your CPU works at his nominal speed? Are you sure of your RAM? of your HDD?
In your place I'd do a full check of the hardware, before doing something else.
Has your computer run normally before?

yep.. few months the boot process was fast as hell. I don't remember if the slowdown was after upgrade from GS 3.10 to 3.12. I'm 101% sure about CPU frequency and RAM.
I have another installation of Arch linux with XFCE on my external HDD connected via USB 2.0 and the boot process into xfce takes less than 45 seconds. So I suppose theres's something really bad on this GS setup.

Can you post the result of 'systemd-analyze blame' when you boot up with your external HDD into XFCE?

Gnome shell 3.14 will resolve this problem maybe?

With your external HDD you get somewhat better results:

but polkit.service and NetworkManager.service are slower to start now.

It's unclear what may be the cause of this: the disk is not the same, different services are enabled.
But it's surprising there are such differences.

All these facts might not be directly related to the slowness to start Gnome shell though, but they could show some other issue.
Sorry I have not much ideas presently.
