GDM not hiding userlist

I'm trying to force GDM to hide the userlist. I've toggled [org/gnome/login-screen/disable-user-list] in dconf, but that doesn't seem to be working.

I know I can hide users individually as per the wiki page on GDM, but when I do that I have to click "user not list?" to open up the login dialog, which is pretty annoying and looks crappy.

Is there another way I can force GDM to hide the user list and default to a login dialog?

Re: GDM not hiding userlist

Ok, so I really need to get better at exhausting all my resources before I post.

I installed gdm3setup from the AUR and could disable the user list from there. What I believe to be the issue I was having with dconf-editor was that it doesn't ask for authentication to change anything like gdm3setup does, so when I toggled the disable-user-list node it didn't actually change because that would have required root.

So my new question is - am I using dconf-editor wrong, or should it actually be asking me to authenticate changes?
