Does it seem odd that the editor nano is not in the archlinux-bootstrap-2014.10.01-x86_64.tar.gz file?
I was working through this https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fa … the_chroot, but the bootstrap environment you chroot into does not have nano in it. I did copy the nano binary from the native install into the bootstrap environment so that is an option.
This absence may or may not cause a point of confusion.
Not a big thing but thought I would mention it.
Thanks.

As a workaround you can use the nano executable from outside the chroot to edit files.

The bootstrap archive is a minimal image. It only contains enough to run pacman in a chroot. Editors and such are available in your bootoed environment, so they are unnecessary,

I think it was editing the mirrorlist per here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … t_a_mirror, directly before pacstrap, that had me looking for nano :-(
Something else I did was cp all my fully updated host's /var/cache/pacman/pkg files into the bootstrap chroot hierarchy, so
pacstrap -c /mnt base base-devel
installed in 30 seconds! (I am curious how long X and the DE will take to install, in similar fashion.)
Of course, after finishing the new install, I did the normal pacman -Syu but there was nothing to update.
Have a good day!
Steve.
