I get it almost every kde logout.
I don't think it's an x.org probem, x stays running. I get the crash message, I push close and I'm back at the login screen from kdm.

I'm using kde from testing (3.4.2-4)

Re: kde crash at logout

Did you ever solve this?

I upgraded tonight and started seeing this failure...

Re: kde crash at logout

Well.. I've been having it for several versions, KDE 3.5 included (if it is the same bug). If I'm not mistaken, Kicker is the one crashing on logout.

There are even some KDE Bug reports on this. It's a bit annoying, but I am aware that I won't be able to track this unless I compile some KDE packages with debug info... and.. that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Re: kde crash at logout

No, I never found a solution for this.  It is indeed kicker who is crashing.

But I found a workaround: I'm using gnome now wink
(because I had even more annoying errors with kde, I'm happy with gnome now)

Re: kde crash at logout

Hi,

It is kicker that I am seeing crash, correct.

I looked around on the KDE forum and bug list.  They acknowledge the bug, but also say that they've fixed it.  Sort of funny since there are about a dozen attachments saying, "No you didn't." ;->

On another forum that has proved useful to me in the past it  was suggested that you delete ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc.  Which I did.

This has momentarily solved the problem, but as I read the thread it looks like this may be only a temporary work around.

There were also some notes about disabling certain applet behavior on the panel.  If I see kicker crashing out on exit again, I'll nose around some more.

Re: kde crash at logout

Have the crash on log out on two kernels(kicker).

Also have no system file search item in menu..don't remember the ID for that menu.

No further info.

Re: kde crash at logout

Try deleting the file noted up above, and also remove the clipboard and any other unnecessary programs from the task bar.  The clipboard seemed to be offending kicker.

Crashes happen randomly now, but not automatically.

Kind regards!

Re: kde crash at logout

i have kde 3.5.1 installed, and i still have this annoying kicker crash on exit.
with kde 3.5.0 i had the same problem

(and on other distros kde 3.4.x did the same)
i dont know what should be the problem, but its very strange that so many have this bug, and no solution comes...:(

Re: kde crash at logout

i've deleted the content of the following temp directory:
/var/tmp/kdecache-$USER

no kicker crash message comes after logout...
it seems that you have to erase this dir after a KDE update....

i'm testing it now...

Re: kde crash at logout

The newest kdelibs 3.5.1-2 will probably solve that problem. It uses a kicker-crash.patch patch file.

Re: kde crash at logout

Did you try login in as a new user?
I don't use kde but I'll use it the next time I reboot to check if I get the crash too.

Re: kde crash at logout

On my system , the crash is no longer...so far.  That is true for kernel26-2.6.15-4.2 and also archck.  I have the latest KDE3.5 installed.

Re: kde crash at logout

I personally *haven't* seen the crash since early 3.4.  After upgrading to kde 3.5.1 I get it consistently.

Re: kde crash at logout

It may help to re-install kde.

As a side note, i installed archck yesterday and it wiped out my boot data for arch.

Anything can happen!

If it can happen, it already has!!!
