I'd say seeking credit is the very opposite of the open source philosophy. Better to do things and hope no-one knows its you.... if you want credit, get into academia, its a great place to argue over who discovered what principle first, who got published first, who wiped their ass first, etc.

ps. saying thanks and saying "I wrote python" when you didn't.. well, I can see why dibble said something. Yet, it was clearly a misunderstanding of verbiage..as it seems iphitus meant "to the main repos", while dibble meant "to a repo"...
