There are so many of these posts of issues with the backlight not resuming when the computer comes out of pm-suspend, but none have resolved my issue yet.
Details of my ASUS N61JQ
Radeon HD 5730
8GB Ram
i7 - 1.8GHz
BtrFs
No gui, command line only
Arch Linux - 3.16.4-1-ARCH
Fresh install (Tuesday)

When pm-suspend is called, the computer suspends correctly, nice and neat. When a button is pressed the computer resumes, sorta...
the screen is black, I can type commands; 'reboot' reboots the laptop and allows me to log in and work. I'd like to not have to reboot from the resume.
I've tried many things today with reboots on each try:

creating a quirk in /etc/pm/sleep.d that turns dpms off and on using vbetool (even tried a sudo of that)
tried to blindly type sudo vbetool off 'enter password' then up arrow change off to on
tried that without entering password (fresh off of sudo pm-suspend)
Any other troubleshoot steps would be greatly accepted - even a point to another solution thread!

adding vga=0 changed nothing (made the resolution 640x480, yeech)
adding nomodeset changed nothing
and neither of these by themselves corrected the issue.
