looks like this is now queued for 3.16.4, https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kerne … ring.patch
Thank you, awesome news! Though for the moment I guess I'll continue using -ck at least until I finish reading the LKN book

@blauman - Just patch it until either 1) the Arch dev team applies it or 2) upstream queues it up for a stable release.
EDIT: looks like this is now queued for 3.16.4, https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kerne … ring.patch
Good news: just upgraded to 3.16.4 via core repository, and I can once again switch on OpenGL rendering and all the silly desktop effects I want...

Solved for me too. Person who had originally fixed it had said that patch was not complete and there was still some chance. Hope that's no more true and latest patch fixes it completely.

Hmm, still happening over here. Get random X freezes. At least I can still switch to a VT and reboot. Last line in dmesg after an X freeze is
[drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... render ring idle
Using 3.16.4-1-ARCH kernel.
