Trouble adding an HP Deskjet 1000 to print Queue

I've been trying to follow the CUPS wiki article however it seems as if I'm doing something wrong.

I've installed libcups and hplip, and ran "sudo hp-setup -i". I got to the end and it told me

Adding print queue to CUPS:
Device URI: hp:/usb/Deskjet_1000_J110_series?serial={redacted}
Queue name: Deskjet_1000_J110
PPD file: /usr/share/ppd/HP/hp-deskjet_1000_j110_series.ppd.gz
Location: Direct USB
Information:
error: Printer queue setup failed. Error : Unable to connect to CUPS server

My guess was that I forgot to start cups. So I run "sudo systemctl start cups", but it says "Failed to start cups.service: Unit cups.service failed to load: No such file or directory." Looking back at the wiki I noticed that I forgot to add my host name to /etc/cups/client.conf. When I open it with "sudo vim /etc/cups/client.conf" I see that there is something else there: /var/run/cups/cups.sock. I try commenting that out and putting in my host name, which I assume to be my computer's name and try again. However, that didn't work either.

If you are setting up cups for local usage (not a print server for other machines), the line concerning the socket in your config is right.
Anything else in the journal?
