i've done it but the issue persists.
if i try to install adobeair by winetricks the console reports the message " HTTP request sent, awaiting response ... 404 not found, Downloading http://airdownload.adobe.com/air/win/do … taller.exe failed"
could this be the problem?

It's weird because I found the folder by this path:
[user@localhost ~]$ ls /home/user/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/LeagueOfLegends/drive_c/Riot\ Games/League\ of\ Legends/
Config/ Logs/ lol.launcher.admin.exe lol.launcher.exe RADS/ Screenshots/
[user@localhost ~]$

//I have read that Adobe Air isn't required anymore (atleast i think so).

Did you install MS-IE8 on the same virtual unit where League of Legends is installed?

I think so. I installed it with play on linux.
I selected LoL in PoL and on the left side there is a button configure. And then configure components.
I use KDE too, my wine version is "System" (1.7.29). I didn't change anything else (no texture patch) except this "The Texture Patch is discontinued A better solution is editing the game.cfg config file adding the line x3d_platform=1 in the [General] section."

It's done. A lot of thanks by your help. LoL is running here again!.

I followed a bunch of the instructions found from here--using the System version of wine, setting the overrides, and setting the game to use OpenGL rather than installing a texture patch--and I found that I could login again, but the launcher would immediately crash with nothing useful in the debug log. So, then, I noticed from Googling that people were saying to take a dnsapi.dll from an existing Windows installation and copy it into the wine bottle's root (as in ~/.wine or ~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/LeagueOfLegends), and set its override to native. Well, that just made League instantly think Adobe AIR was missing. So, now I'm at a loss. I fixed one long-running problem only to have a new one.

Did LoL already run on your Pc or did it never work? Have you installed the propriatary graphics driver?
If you have a decent internet connection its maybe best if you try to reinstall LoL.
Just install it normal with PoL and then:
* Set the wine version to System.
* Edit the game.cfg, add x3d_platform=1 in the [General] section.
* Install Internet Explorer 8.
Then it should work.
If you still have any troubles, post the logs, maybe you have overlooked something and somebody can help you.

Hate to necro a thread but I feel its better than creating a new thread with the same issue. That being said, I do in fact have the same issue with logging in. I've tried the suggestions here in this thread which includes adding "x3d_platform=1" to the config, verifying that dnsapi.dll was in my wineprefix windows/system32, and even turned off time stamps (a fix posted in another post). I've tried with both Playonlinux as well as with just wine alone (no PoL). I've made sure to install d3dx9, vcrun2005, wininet, corefonts, adobeair, and ie8.
Any other suggestions?
