Big Mouse Cursor After Update

After updating today, my mouse cursor seems to be four times as large as normal. This has gotta be due sync today because I synced yesterday at 8:00 PM eastern and this was not present. Is there any way to debug this or fix this? I'm sure I can't be the only one that sees this as well.

Also I noticed after the initial sync, this issue only happened within a Firefox window. After a reboot, this happens right away after X starts regardless if firefox is open or running.

There's not a lot of information to go on. Which WM / DE? Which theme etc. etc.

Have you set the size in ~/.Xresources?

As I too noticed a difference and only have one mouse theme installed, it could very well be:

% grep adwa /var/log/pacman.log 
[2014-10-16 14:47] [PACMAN] installed adwaita-icon-theme (3.14.0-1)

Hi sorry I didn't include more information, but I'm not completely sure what information is relevant. I haven't used any custom themes. I'm currently using xmonad and I am not setting any sizes in my .Xresources file. Is there any other information I can include that would be of any help?

Using the command "find /usr/share/icons -type d -iname "*cursors*"...

It seems that the only cursor I have and the only cursor theme installed is the /usr/share/icons/Adwaita/cursors theme.

So downgrade that package and see if the cursors change.

I am having the same issue. It is because gtk3 now depends on adwaita-icon-theme.

Removing /usr/share/icons/Adwaita/cursors fixes the issue. However it is not a real fix. Does anyone know how to select the use of the default X cursors? ie the one where you dont have any cursor themes installed

There is no downgrade as that is the the only version of it. It was added as a dep to gnome3 to fix other peoples problems and since i dont use gnome3 i just removed it completely. I just wanted to know how you can select the default cursor theme that comes with X because then selecting that would work.

Also just in case someone doesn't want to remove that package you can put this in your xinitrc or equivalent which will choose the inbuilt cursor

Xcursor defaults to /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme if no mouse themes are set anywhere else. I commented out Inherits=Adwaita, restarted X, and that brought back the old cursors.

I was about to say that it doesn't seem reasonable that a GUI toolkit package would set a system wide default like this. However, it seems the default setting to use adwaita has been provided for some time by libxcursor (which has not been updated in a while), and the reason why this popped up just now is that adwaita was installed as a dependency by the new version of gtk3 and could now be loaded.

Happened here too (Adwaita kicking in - google it, might make you chuckle ) - using Awesome WM.

Didn't mind the style but in my case the cursor was massive!

Set the cursor size in .Xresources (see: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cu … _resources):

Xcursor.size:  16       !  32, 48 or 64 may also be good values

Just as a quick question, are all the people here having problems people with multiple monitors or using some sort of login service that doesn't have good support for multi monitors? I think my issues was that I use slim, and slim doesn't have true multimonitor support, so it essentially saw my two monitors as being one huge resolution -- so it loaded in the HiDIP mouse cursor because it doesn't know any better.

Ah! Now it's interesting you brought up the multi-monitor thing as I have 4 here (standard desktop) but using my 'gaming' xorg.conf, which only enables the main screen, the pointer size was unaffected!!

I am not using gnome, but happened to spot the same issue. I changed Xcursor.size to 16 in .Xresources, and it fixed the problem for applications like firefox or urxvt, but in xmonad it is still huge! For example - when I have no open windows or when I hover my xmobar, the pointer goes large.

Also, uncommenting the appropriate entry in /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme fixed the problem, but I guess it is not the best way to fix it.

Same issue here. Been troubleshooting it for the last two days. Just found out it was GTK3 that was causing it.
Running i3wm with 4 screens. (one 1440p three 1080p)
