I am using i686, nouveau and a 'VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)'.
After upgrade linux (3.16.4-1 -> 3.17.1-1) my mplayer don´t show movie anymore, i only can hear the audio without mplayer frontend/images/window.
cvlc can show some movies but when i type 'f' to fullscreen it get frozen/freezed.
Was working fine, the problem was started after the last -Syu in day 21 or 22 oct.
I have 'Linux 3.14.22-1-lts' installed and is working fine, the problem happens only with the latest stock kernel (3.17.1-1).

Maybe it can reveal the problem, i don´t know:
https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … e7750e5356
I only know the mplayer and vlc isn´t working fine with latest stock kernel. Don´t play .mp4, .rmvb, etc files.

semeion, please edit your post.
When posting configs, code or command output, please use [ code ] tags https://bbs.archlinux.org/help.php#bbcode

I can confirm the problem. I can play videos with mplayer, if i choose x11 as output, not xv like before. The x11 output is slow as hell, but it works.

@karol, thanks for the tip! ![]()
@Usul, yes, using x11 work slow as hell and freezing alot
Do you know what can is making this problem? I have intel microcode enabled and all system updated.
What video driver are you using? mesa installed? Are you using i686?
Thanks both for the answer my post.

I'm using mpv and the intel drivers and everything works fine: xv, opengl and even hw accel.
What drivers are you using?

karol, i was asking to Usul, he have same issue like me.
I am using nouveau i686 like i have mentioned in first post.
I really think this time it is a upstream misconfigured stock kernel, maybe only to i686 with nouveau and NV34 videocard. NV34 don´t support vdpau, the driver can´t try use vdpau on a NV34. ![]()
Usul, what is your videocard?

yes, i can confirm the problem too, the new kernel 3.17 don´t permit the use of xv as output like before, have the new kernel droped xv video support to NV34/i686?

Here is the fix to the problem:

Thanks to imirkin on #nouveau (freenode).

@semeion
THX for pointing out this fix. The description matches perfectly to my problem and system environment.
I'm using a NV44A [GeForce 6200] on an ancient AGP board with an AMD X2 CPU, running Archlinux x86_64.

@Usul, you are welcome.

I think the admin can mark this topic like [Solved], because all know the fix and this problem very probably will be solved in the 17.1.x.

Good news! Minutes ago, I updated to the latest kernel on my archlinux box, version number 3.17.3. LWN:
drm/nouveau: fix regression on agp boards
One reboot later, I can confirm that (at least in my case) the problem is finally solved!
