FF was updated today, not sure if this helped anything.
I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...

hard system freezes at VT->X switching disappeared after downgrading evince. But really, how can evince freeze the whole system like that. Seems like a critical architecture weakness?

Same problem here. Firefox is stuck and only a kill -9 stop the process.
$sudo strace -p 8600
Process 8600 attached
futex(0x7f269a22f4c8, FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE, 2, NULL <unfinished ...>
+++ killed by SIGKILL +++
But evince is not present on my system. Only Flash is installed : /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

I do not have the problem any longer.
May be an upgrade has fixed the problem.
What about you guys that met this problem, is this problem still present on your machine or not?

After a reboot, all seems work fine...

I think it happens off and on, but not like it first did. And that's with the plugin disabled.

I'd had this problem, then it went away when I removed /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libevbrowserplugin.so as some other threads recommended. I did a system upgrade last night, though haven't rebooted the computer, and FF 33.0.2 is freezing again if I use the screen brightness keys. The libev file still doesn't exist, so that's not the problem this time.
Hmm, actually it's possible the old problem was freezing on minimize/maximize, and that the brightness problem never went away; I don't use them that often.

Same problem here with firefox. The crashes are really random, hard to reproduce.

Same problem. It started a month or two ago with single short freezes a few minutes after launching the browser. I blamed the amount of open tabs (I tend to have 70-100 open tabs) and it didn't bother me.
After switching to awesome I can't use my browser anymore. It always freezes when the window loses focus or randomly after a few minutes and the freeze is pernament. After switching viewport or going to VT and back firefox winow becomes completely blank (light grey). The bug affects also firefox aurora, LTS version and most FF forks such as IceWeasel and IceCat. Moving profile folder to get rid of add-ons and stuff doesn't help.
Switch back to compiz has no effect besides the window don't get blank when switching viewports.
