Accessing GPT Hangs system under 3.16, ok on 3.14

Strange, I have connected my DROBO via USB3 (16TB) and under kernel 3.14.21-1-lts when I run gdisk everything is as normal, I can create / delete partitions, mount the disk etc etc.

But under 3.16.4-1-ARCH, as soon as I execute gdisk, the system hangs at the "GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.10", cannot control C and cannot even be shutdown:

# gdisk /dev/sdb
GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.10

I also tried this under ubuntu, that also hangs and it appears that only 3.14 works as expected.

I have checked and CONFIG_EFI_PARTITION=y is enabled.

Any suggestions ?

Update
======

I have another 3.14.21-1-lts install, and that also hangs, so it appears that I have only one machine that this works on, how can I find out why ?

Re: Accessing GPT Hangs system under 3.16, ok on 3.14

I was hoping that dmesg would provide some insight, and it does show something:

[    3.521587] scsi 3:0:0:0: Direct-Access     Drobo    5D               5.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0

[ 3.549278] sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through

gdisk /dev/sdb is currently running and hung, cpu usage is 100% but I can't find any other logs that would tell me what is going on !
