Optimus laptop using nvidia GPU without optirun?

I have an Optimus laptop with Bumblebee installed. I assumed that any application would use the intel chipset unless I specifically choose to use the nvidia chipset by running the command with optirun. However I have just noticed that running Darktable even without optirun switches the nvidia card on (according to bbswitch), loads the nvidia modules and uses opencl. How is this happening?
