Battery running for less than an hour

I have Hp Pavilion g6 2005ax with following specifications :
Microprocessor:  AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M
Video Graphics:  AMD Radeon HD 7640G + 7670M Dual GPU (1 GB DDR3 dedicated)

I've installed opensource ati drivers. Previously the laptop heated much, so I added radeon.dpm=1 to kernel parameters which reduced the temperature from 80+ to 60+ (by 20). But still the battery life is less than an hour. I think if I'm able to reduce the temperature by another 20 then I'll be getting better battery life. Also I don't want to reduce the laptop performance when AC charger is connected, so the settings must take effect only when laptop is on battery power.

I'm using linux 3.14.18-1-lts with KDE.

Re: Battery running for less than an hour

Have you had tried some of the suggestions listed on the Hybrid Graphics Wiki page?

Also, I'd have thought that power management is better with the current kernel, with all the updates to the Open Source drivers in the kernel.

Re: Battery running for less than an hour

This the output of cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch

0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:00:01.0
1:DIS: :DynOff:0000:01:00.0

I think it means the discrete gpu is powered off.
