Hi, I read arch Wiki to check what driver I must install for my nvidia geforce 680 and 760M but I don't understand what is the right driver. Can you say me what is the right driver?

Determine the necessary driver version for your card by visiting NVIDIA's driver download site

So I must install nvidia-340xx?
Offline
Yup.
Offline
What is the differenze between nvidia driver and nvidia-340xx driver?
Offline
The former supports newest hardware, the latter slightly older. It's a different binary. It's a closed-source binary-only driver, so nobody can tell you what exactly is different.
Offline
@karol: Actually, you're wrong. 340xx is a legacy driver, delvi932905's cards aren't legacy, so no need to use a legacy driver.
@delvi932905: The mainline driver, nvidia, is for you. What exactly is unclear on the wiki? I'm asking because I don't think this could be written any clearer:
For GeForce 400 series cards and newer [NVCx and newer], install the nvidia or nvidia-lts package, available in the official repositories.
For GeForce 8000/9000 and 100-300 series cards [NV5x, NV8x, NV9x and NVAx] from around 2006-2010, install the nvidia-340xx or nvidia-340xx-lts package, available in the official repositories.
For GeForce 6000/7000 series cards [NV4x and NV6x] from around 2004-2006, install the nvidia-304xx or nvidia-304xx-lts package, available in the official repositories.
You have 680 and 760M, so clearly the first line - 400 and newer - applies to you.

Gusar, did you check the nvidia website? The wiki may be out of date, upstream shouldn't be.
Offline
Ah, there's something I missed - 340xx currently also serves as Nvidia's "long-lived branch" in addition to being a legacy driver for 8000/9000/100/200/300 cards.
Offline
The wiki needs to be updated, but I have no idea what's up with the beta driver etc.
Let's continue this discussion in the wiki talk page.
Offline
No, there's no need to update anything. That part I quoted is fully correct, install packages as listed there depending on which card you have. The long-lived branch isn't packaged by Arch, so I think adding anything about it to the wiki would only confuse rather than help. Those three lines are the only relevant ones, following them you're guaranteed to get the correct driver.

I think OP's cards fall into 'GeForce 400 series cards and newer', but he should install the driver that we list as 'For GeForce 8000/9000 and 100-300 series cards'.
What am I missing here?
Offline
Why do you think he should install 340xx?
Offline
I went to nvidia website and picked his hardware from the dropdown list: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverRe … 9412/en-us
Offline
Yeah, that form seems to favor the long-lived branch instead of mainline. But we're Arch, we're bleeding edge. So we use mainline.
Offline
Let's try again.
One part of our wiki tells the user to go to the nvidia website and thus OP will install nvidia-340xx.
Another part of the wiki says he should just use the nvidia driver.
I think the wiki should be edited so that the user knows which driver he should install.
Offline
Hmm, yeah, I see it now. I'd say drop point 2 entirely, point 3 is more than enough.

I have a GeForce GTX 670MX and I installed version 343.22, but Nvidia web site proposes version 340.48

Does the version you installed work?

Definitely no prob

Offline
Ok, so I just have to install the nvidia package not the nvidia-340xx package
Offline
I do believe that the installer will probe your card to check whether the drivers are suitable.
If you are in doubt, just make a disk backup, it's easy to go back, and try that driver. In case of wrong you try the second option, once you've resume your backup.
