[SOLVED] XMonad: can't bind print screen key

I'm trying to bind the print screen key, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

In my keybindings I have:

myKeys conf@(XConfig {XMonad.modMask = modm}) = M.fromList $
    [
      ...
    , ((0, xK_Print), spawn "scrot -q 1 $HOME/pictures/screenshots/%Y-%m-%d-%H:%M:%S.png")
      ...
    ]

If I replace xK_Print with another key (like xK_F12) it works, which means that the problem is with the print screen key itself.

Using xev, it is possible to see that the keysym of print screen is 0xff61:

KeyPress event, serial 32, synthetic NO, window 0x1a00001,
root 0x90, subw 0x0, time 8532454, (593,435), root:(594,454),
state 0x10, keycode 218 (keysym 0xff61, Print), same_screen YES,
XKeysymToKeycode returns keycode: 107
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

KeyRelease event, serial 32, synthetic NO, window 0x1a00001,
root 0x90, subw 0x0, time 8532501, (593,435), root:(594,454),
state 0x10, keycode 218 (keysym 0xff61, Print), same_screen YES,
XKeysymToKeycode returns keycode: 107
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

but using that instead of xK_Print doesn't work either (I checked with ghci and xK_Print is equal to 0xff61).

here is my entire xmonad.hs, in case it helps:

How can I bind the print screen key to something? Of course I can use another key for the job, but it feels silly not using print screen to take a screenshot.

Re: [SOLVED] XMonad: can't bind print screen key

Dont know if you still have this issues but i copied your whole xmonad.hs config file and replaced it with mine and it worked just fine. Using the $HOME variable was no issue for me. Have you tried using the print key with the mod key included.

Note: for my print key to be recognized by xev i had to hold the ctrl key. that way it was not registered by xmonad. Also for xev command i use

xev | grep -A2 --line-buffered '^KeyRelease' | sed -n '/keycode /s/^.*keycode \([0-9]*\).* (.*, \(.*\)).*$/\1 \2/p'

it makes it easier to read. then i go to /usr/include/KF86keysym.h to find the code.

Hopes any of this helps.

Re: [SOLVED] XMonad: can't bind print screen key

I believe it must have been a bug and it was fixed, since print screen now works as expected. I'm using xmonad version 0.11-9, with ghc version 7.8.3.

Nice, that seems to be useful. Thanks!

@LQYMGT

Do you still have issues with the latest version? Otherwise I will mark this thread as solved.
