So the suggested way of making catalyst work on gnome 3.14 is using the [catalyst] repo, xorg 1.16 from official repos, reinstalling libnm-gtk and using a dm different from GDM (or just console login and startx)? The other thing which is still not clear to me, is if i have a laptop with an integrated and a discrete graphics card, do I still need the *-pxp packages, or is PowerXpress already implemented in the main package?

Im unable to guarantee that it will work, just saying that in my case gnome "crash" was not related to catalyst. The answer for your first question is yes. Use dm(or startx) other than gdm, its possible that libnm-gtk reinstall wont be needed.
As for the pxp support the answer is also yes, it should work just fine with the main package.

Ignore this,

Decided to start a thread about it instead.

Then I will wait for a reply from the maintainer.

I'm pretty sure that you didn't update catalyst-total-hd234k to version 13.1-28, because there I fixed conflict with ati-dri.

@vipo:
is this some kind of pxp notebook?
AMD often had problems with mobile gpus... Have you tried catalyst 14.9 + [xorg115] repo?

Yup it s a laptop with integrated intel 3000 + amd 7690m xt graphics.

I know it worked fine with Xorg 1.15 so i am downgrading now and re-installing the catalyst drivers (i removed them). I will report back.

I had a configuration like yours and got the same error message.
Then I followed the vi0l0's suggestion by downgrade xorg to xorg115 and it worked.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

EDIT: Fixed everything but just using a different port in my graphics card.

I'm running into the problem where i3 is not displaying the i3bar on my secondary screen. I believe this issue is because for some reason my second monitor is showing up as disconnected in xrandr even though I'm currently using the monitor.
This issue is only happening when I use the xf86-video-ati driver. When utilizing the catalyst driver both monitors show up as connected in xrandr and i3bar is displayed on both of my monitors.

He's what xrandr outputs when I'm using the catalyst driver:

I found it quite interesting that the correct resolution isn't showing up in xrandr even though the screen is most certainly running at 1920x1080. This resolution then shows up when I remove the cable.

When using the catalyst driver my xorg.conf was automatically generated and I never really touched it. When using the open source driver I'm using this org.conf to correctly position my two monitors:

Section "Monitor"
	Identifier	"DisplayPort-4"
        Option	"PreferredMode" "1920x1200"
	Option	"Primary" "true"
	Option	"Position" "0 0"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
	Identifier	"DVI-1"
        Option	"PreferredMode" "1920x1080"
	Option	"Position" "1920 120"
EndSection

My GPU is a HD 7970
My two monitors are a 1920x1200 plugged into the displayport plug and a 1920x1080 display plugged into the DVI port.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I have an AMD HD 7770, I also use Gnome. After months and months of perfectly use with the open source driver, I decided to give it a try to Catalyst.

I followed the guide, installed Catalyst-hook and related from Vi0L0's repo. Blacklisted radeon. Created the new xorg with aticonfig --initial

Once I rebot the computer, it goes to the terminal screen with the things loading, and it stops there forever after loading 4-5 things.

I can log to consoles, but there's nothing in the xorg logs.

There's seems to be nothing wrong, it simply won't load

EDIT: After login, I tried startx, and I got this log from Xorg:

This is with catalyst-generator, I had the same exact issue with catalyst-hook

 # pacman -Qs catalyst

 # uname -a
Linux #### 3.17.3-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Nov 14 23:13:48 CET 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This is on a clean install. It is running as a xen HVM guest, the card gets VGA-passthrough'ed. catalyst/fglrx works fine on a gentoo HVM guest.

I am using the vanilla arch kernel, (which should be fine btw, HVMs think they are running on bare metal and require no special configuration), but I looked at the config anyways:

# grep AMD_IOMMU /tmp/src/core/linux/config.x86_64
CONFIG_AMD_IOMMU=y
# CONFIG_AMD_IOMMU_STATS is not set
CONFIG_AMD_IOMMU_V2=m

Loaded the amd_iommu_v2 module for funsies (I have an intel motherboard/cpu .. ) and tried a systemctl restart systemd-modules-load.service, which reduced the noise a bit:

 # journalctl -xe
-- Unit UNIT has begun starting up.
Nov 25 08:05:25 #### systemd[377]: Received SIGRTMIN+24 from PID 3166 (kill).
Nov 25 08:05:25 #### systemd[378]: pam_unix(systemd-user:session): session closed for user ####

But no go. So, any suggestions? What's the missing piece here? Might be something obvious, since this is my first go at arch/pacman/systemd

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Do you guys have that problem that Unity3D games, like Rust and 7 Days to Die, freezes Xorg and computer hardlocks like even REISUB isn't working?
When Xorg freezes, I can connect to computer with SSH and when checking with htop it shows that Xorg.bin hogs 100% of 1 core.
When Xorg freezes, only thing I can do is force restart with power button or sudo reboot when connected with SSH.
In journalctl there is "[fglrx] ASIC hang happened" error when Xorg freezes, journalctl shown below.

Yep, I have this issue exactly as you describe with the same error in journalctl, triggered by Kerbal Space Program (another Unity game), often after an hour or so in game or during a 'scene change' or load.

Weirdly, if I drop the graphical settings (particularly settings that lower texture cache usage), it doesn't happen...

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I have a question: catalyst 14.9 works with Xorg1.16?
I am using catalyst pxp driver but xorg doesn't start after the updating...

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Seems that PowerExpress is not agreeing well with Xorg 1.16. I tried everything on my ProBook. If anyone has a hint, would be greatly appreciated too.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Does anyone have instructions on how to install AMD ADL SDK, everything I try get's shot down because the file I DLed doesn't pass the integrity check, even after I fixed the md5sum.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Hello, guys
Im trying to setup amd/intel graphics on my laptop

lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Mars [Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8750M]
  • I install catalyst-test from aur

  • Blacklist radeon

  • Check that /etc/modules-load.d/catalyst.conf contains fglrx

  • Create initial config

    sudo aticonfig --initial
  • Enable amd with

    sudo pxp_switch_catalyst amd

And then I get fatal error in xorg after reboot

Here is my xorg.conf

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Have the same combo, Intel Haswell/AMD Radeon 8750M, it just won't work with xorg 1.16. Have you tried using xorg 1.15 repo?

No I don't.
catalyst-test package is compatible with 1.6 (but it is test version - may be it is just unstable)
If you combo is working well on xorg 1.15, could you please provide additional info (version of catalyst, used packages, repo, etc)?
Thank you in advance

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

@Vi0L0

Hi,
today a new Amd Catalyst 14.12 (http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/d … x%20x86_64) version is out!
When are you updating your repositories?

As stated in the  release notes (http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-article … Notes.aspx) this is the first AMD Catalyst™ OMEGA Linux Release.

Keep up the good work!

Am using catalyst-test-pxp from AUR and fully upgraded Arch (with xorg115 repo added). It's one thing to claim compatibility, reality is something else. Catalyst works with regular setup on my desktop machine, but PowerExpress (at least with my Intel/AMD combo) is crashing the server right away (or completely freezing the machine if display manager is enabled).
From my experiments I came to a conclusion that it's the Intel driver that poses the problem for Catalyst, as it works fine with xf86-video-intel 2.99.910 from Vi0L0's xorg115 repo. I tried rebuilding older Intel driver against new Xorg, but even though it builds, it ends u having various graphical glitches (invisible cursor for one), git version of intel driver also crashes on start if Catalyst is used.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Having the following issue since https://www.archlinux.org/news/gnupg-21 … n-keyring/

error: database 'catalyst' is not valid (invalid or corrupted database (PGP signature))

Any hints on how to resolve this?

Have you added the key back into the keyring? Those commands nuke the keyring, so you have to rebuild it, adding back all the extra keys you put in and signed.

Claire is fine.
Problems? I have dysgraphia, so clear and concise please.

Have you added the key back into the keyring? Those commands nuke the keyring, so you have to rebuild it, adding back all the extra keys you put in and signed.

Yep, get the following when I try.

error: key "Vi0L0 <vi0l093@gmail.com>" could not be imported

Try with sudo pacman-key -r <keyid> and then sign it. Worked for me in resolving a similar issue.

I get a similar thing with CS:GO, HD7850 too.
Regarding REISUB, do you have it enabled? Initially I didn't so had to hard reset.

Hi Violo,

Do you plan to update catalyst-test package in the AUR?

He said on AUR Catalyst page that he's AFK and will see about new driver this evening when he's able.
