hey people,
I am in deep trouble. I tried to update my kernel a bit, and now it doesnt want to boot at all anymore.
I think I do not have ext3 support in my kernel (the hds are partitioned that way). Anyways, it gave an obscure error after the kernelbooting. I could only mount the HD read only to fix te problem.
Anyways, I tried alot, but nothing happened, and now I get an error at bootup saying: no boot signature at partition.
I have access to the hd through the archlinux install cd.
I am (or are supposed to) running lilo. kernel version, dont even know because I changed backups all the time.
What do I do?

So through the archlinux original cd I mount -t ext3 two partitions:
/
/boot (which is a special one for booting)
and then I do a
lilo -M /dev/discs/disc0/disc mbr
but that doesnt make a difference.
I am working on this the whole day already...

Try to install or simply untar kernel package from install cd into / (i think)
Modify you lilo.conf
Run lilo
...and hope it will work.

wow, I reinstalled the kernel and the bootloader from the archlinux cd and now I can boot again!

Skip to the end first then, maybe? You may even have something better to offer - ignoring topics marked as solved isn't always the best thing I think but I know what you mean...
