PC:
- Gigabyte 990FX UD3
- AMD FX4100 CPU
- Radeon HD6670 Graphics Card
Problem:
- after update screen stays black and loses signal to my monitor.
I can't get gdm or gnome-session working after a
pacman -Syu update on 12.01.2014. I went as far as backing all my data and reinstalling Arch on the PC and the very same problem. Is anyone else having issues with ati driver?
I've tried starting openbox after with
startxdisabling gdm.service as well but I get a DISPLAY error.

xf86-video-ati is the driver and it's telling me that it can't detect my screens in the Xorg.0.log.

I thought you said it told you it couldn't detect the screen? Everything looks perfect in that log.
Please post exact errors from here on out. Your rephrasing is getting us nowhere.

Nvm. Don't want to waste your time. I'll check in a different forum. I have two Xorg.0.logs. One in ".local/share/xorg/" and the other "/var/log". I should've sent both.

Bug in 3.17.3 and 3.17.4 kernels related to radeon and HDMI. Supposed to be fixed in 3.17.5.
Thanks 'ewpt3ch' for the heads up. Yea I installed the LTS and all is fine now. Waiting for the fix with the next update.

Hello guys! I have the same problem with the 3.16.5 kernel. I had to rollback 3.16.4 to solve temporarily. Does anyone know if the new kernel (3.17.6) fix this issue?

3.17.6-1 hit [core] yesterday... if you're affected by this bug, why not test out that release and update the thread?
