I followed the instructions here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vi … nux_guests
However, when I type "startx", my window resizes, goes black for a split second, then goes back to being small and drops me back to the command line.
Here's a screenshot of what I get after that happens: http://imgur.com/a0KscTv
Something which seems odd is that I don't have an /etc/rc.d directory.

Did you put anything in your .xinitrc file?
Arch linux uses systemd so you shouldn't have an rc.d directory.

what desktop environment are you using?

The only .xinitrc file on the system is the default one in /etc/skel.
I'm trying to use dwm. I've already compiled it to ~/dwm but running "exec dwm" just gives me a new login prompt.
Got it!
I copied over the .xinitrc file and added "exec dwm" to it. Thanks!
