Minecraft performance: Arch Linux vs Windows

Hi everyone.

I would like to ask you - did you notice any performance differences between Arch Linux and Windows OS?

Even after many configurations along with bumblebee (primusrun, optirun, optiprime (google with keyword "ubuntu")), I always get a better performance on windows 8.1, even if I use openbox only.

What's your experience with minecraft between these two operation systems?

Re: Minecraft performance: Arch Linux vs Windows

Is this a problem you are trying to fix? Or, are you just taking a poll?

What are the actual framerate numbers for you for Minecraft in Linux and Windows?

Are you using the Nvidia hardware or the Intel hardware?

Let's hope this is not about 60 vs 9000 fps...

Re: Minecraft performance: Arch Linux vs Windows

It's getting better. The difference used to be huge. Two years ago, with Linux+nvidia+openjdk+Minecraft in full screen, I had to tweak optifine to have it stable at >40fps (not enough for proper VSync), while Windows gave me 180fps with all optifine settings on max with the Oracle JRE. Now, after nvidia put some actual work into the Linux drivers for SteamOS, it's more like 100-120 fps. I have more trouble with CPU heavy stuff, I cannot operate ten chunk loaders for automatic farms, XP generators and stuff like that, five quarries for automatic mining and a huge ME storage system on Windows with the Oracle JRE, but both implementations run like a charm on Linux, without the simulation dying all the time. The worst thing is, that optifine does not play well with many mod packs, so I can't get anything above 80fps on either platform.

yea, I can't rest in peace because many people, especially in ubuntu forums reported that minecraft works the way better on Linux than on Windows, but in any way it seems to be absolutelly false in my cases hmm actually you are quite right about Nvidia drivers - its getting better tongue
