Hi,
Long term Arch user here suffering from a problem that I can't get to the bottom of.
My system isn't booting with the default initramfs image. The fallback is fine but I get a kernel panic from the default initramfs image:
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(5,0)
This started with kernel 3.17.3-1
This is quite a common error from the forums, but none of the suggested tricks help. I presume that a driver isn't being loaded into the default initramfs image, but does anybody have any ideas for discovering which changes I should make to mkinitcpio.conf to fix the problem?
Alternatively, is there any downside to booting from the fallback initramfs generated with the '-S autodetect' option?

Is this an EFI system? If so, are you sure that the /boot partition from your booted machine (the fallback) is the SAME /boot that is the EFI partition? This is often the issue.

Anything custom in mkinitcpio.conf that might be to blame? Fallback ignores the customizations I believe.
