pacman --search

I'm trying to use that to search for specific packages with X string in the description and I know gnome is in there =p but it's not outputting anything to my screen....

did the -- options get ninja changed and I missed it?

man pacman is probably your best friend here:)
As far as I know, pacman -Ss searches the package list,
pacman -Q queries the database and can be combined with different options...

-S and -Q are operations and are always needed in order for the options to work.
