[SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

Hi
First I am so sorry to open a new topic while there is one in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 5#p1308505. but due to the link is solved and its solutions could not solve my problem I had to open a new one.

My problem is with my wireless device. Its driver is Broadcom wireless-bcm43142 I do not know why I cannot see my interface. The ip link gives me:
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default
    link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: enp3s0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state UP mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether 20:1a:06:9c:67:19 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

And the iwconfig gives me:
enp3s0    no wireless extensions.
lo        no wireless extensions.

As you can see there is no wireless interface and wifi-menu (as root) gives:
Invalid interface specification

I have found no way to solve my problem.
Is there any one can help me?

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/broadcom-wl-dkms/

Sadly your chip is not supported by B43 yet.

Ofcourse check the rfkill status too.

How did it not work?  Did you install that aur package?

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

Yes Trilby.
I installed that aur package and it does not work yet.
I am new in Arch maybe I do not know how can I work whit my wireless device. Of course I am familiar with installing aur packages and another aur packages which I installed work well.
After I installed that aur package I rebooted my laptop and try to find my wireless device but again I faced with the same as I wrote in the first post.
Currently I connected by wired connection but wifi is really needed.
What should I do now?

unload b43 if it is loaded, load wl, and then run rfkill list all and give us the output.

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

As I said I am really new in Arch and I am not familiar enough with Arch commands.
So please let me know by detail how can I unload b43, load wl and run rfkill.
I am so sorry for that.

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

I think rmmod b43 is for unloading b43, modprobe wl for loading wl and then the output of rfkill list all should be posted here.

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

1> b43 was not loaded, so that is good

2> It looks like you don't have broadcom-wl installed (At least for the kernel you are using)

3> You don't have rfkill installed as well (Which is  why it didn't work)

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

I installed the broadcom-wl from aur and rfkill packages. The outputs are:

# modprobe wl
modprobe: FATAL: Module wl not found.

# rfkill list all

    Hard blocked: no
1: ideapad_bluetooth: Bluetooth

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

And b43-firmware work?
I have a broadcom and I use b43-firmware for my device.

I recommend you try first with broadcom-wl and if that fail, try with b43-firmware and late b43-firmware-legacy.
remmember, all are from the aur and install one at time.

Well, I suppose that this is somekind of signature, no?

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

I did get your chipset to work, though not in arch - it was for an ubuntu 14.10 and another fedora 21 installation. The thing *will work* provided you install it properly. Probably its done easiest in ubuntu. Then comes fedora, with a little more command line difficulty. In your case, what I suspect is that the module was not properly loaded. After installation, assuming that b43 or bcma (or others which you can find from /etc/modprobe.d/broadcom-wl.conf) are not loaded, see whats the output of dmesg. Post it here. First time I installed in fedora, I got a lot of errors telling "Unknown symbols"

If you dont have any such error in dmesg, try recreating the ramdisk and reboot.

mkinitcpio -p linux

dmesg did not give me that " a lot of errors telling "Unknown symbols"", and you see its output in bellow.
I recreated the ramdisk and reboot but still no difference.
dmesg output is (a little long):

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

You should be using the code tag. Otherwise simply use pastebin or something like that.

First of all, did you completely remove b43 drivers you just installed ?.

Now, after a clean install of broadcom-wl:

1) Do you actually have the module installed? what does modinfo wl say ? If it is not giving errors, try modprobe wl now and again check the last few lines in the output of dmesg for any related errors.

2) has the proper driver taken control of ur device? What does lspci -vv part of your wifi controller say? Look for lines starting with "Kernel" in the output under Network controller.

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

What is the output of

find / -name "wl.ko*"

Run it as root.

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

I am sorry to paste that code by that shape, thanks to learn me.
The outputs are:

# modinfo wl

modinfo: ERROR: Module wl not found.

^^ Thats the first problem you need to solve. For some reason, wl kernel module is either not built, or its not where its supposed to be.

...

^^ And a wrong module bcma has took over your device.

Somehow you need to get the wl module built. I am not really an advanced user to give you suggestions on building packages using PKGBUILD, or tweaking it. Broadcom has given some instruction along with the driver in the README.txt. See if you can proceed from there. Better go through the PKGBUILD file to see whats really happening when your module is being build.

I hope with this info you have provided, others will be able to help you out in better way.

Then obviously you don't have it installed.
How did you install broadcom-wl?
Maybe you built it but didn't actually install the package?

Reinstall broadcom-wl and post the output of every step you do.

Re: [SOLVED]Driver of Broadcom wireless-bcm43142

Both modules are using the device, If things are still not working, try removing both the modules with rmmod and try inserting wl again using modprobe.
