Sorry this is a super newb question but I've googled and googled and couldn't find my answer. I just installed i3 and read the official user guide figured out how to open terminal's and change my background wallpaper how ever, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change the terminal's background color to black. I would like to eventually have it be transparent but for now I'd be content with black. Also the font color would be cool to like an arch linux blue. I know I have to add something to the "i3/config." file just not sure what.

What terminal are you opening? Each is configured differently; see the wiki for details on your specific terminal.

1) Read the i3 User's Guide. i3 has perhaps the clearest and most thorough documentation of any tiler. It's a great resource; use it.
2) If something isn't mentioned in the i3 User's Guide, it has nothing to do with i3.

i3 is just a window manager. These days it seems to be the gateway stand-alone WM of choice for some reason, and far too many people install it without understanding the difference between a tiling window manager and a complete desktop environment with floating windows. I can't for the life of me understand why that is.

Well, I have to admit, members of this community were downright giddy about tiling managers back when I was sold on OpenBox. Knowing nothing of what it was like to use a tiling manage, I picked one. I happened to pick i3 mostly because of the excellent documentation. It took me a solid month to "Move in" and get it set up the way I wanted.

Remember to include `xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources` in your .xinitrc (or .i3/config).

I put mine, per wiki, in .xinitrc
Plus, I leave out the merge because .Xresources has the settings I need that aren't added to anything.

Also, make sure xorg-xrdb is installed - .Xresources wasn't working for me until that was installed. Prior to that .Xdefaults was used, and has a different coding scheme.

Thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it but I'm gonna take a step back and stick to XFCE. I need to further familiarize my self with linux commands. At this time I think I'm still to novice to take on all the configuration's I feel are necessary to make i3 an everyday OS I can use.

Seems true. Nowadays a lot of user don't understand what tiling means: thay see tiling screen everywhere and they pick one $RANDOM. I started with dwm, now I'm on i3 since long time (honestly I don't remember when I started using i3) and for me it's perfect (coding et similia).
