xfce + conky problem

I don't believe I've had this problem before, but when I start conky or torsmo, the background becomes gray. Doesn't help to try switching the background image again, it's just like it makes an overlay over the wallpaper.
I'm using XFCE-svn - Here's a screenshot:

try starting it with -o:
$ conky -o
