[SOLVED] How to play .aac files in mplayer?

What do I need to install when I want to play .aac Audio files? Every suggestion I found by googling just confuses me. I hope you can help.

mplayer Deadman\ Wonderland.aac
MPlayer SVN-r37224 (C) 2000-2014 MPlayer Team
210 audio & 441 video codecs
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
Failed to open LIRC support. You will not be able to use your remote control.

Playing Deadman Wonderland.aac.
libavformat version 55.33.100 (internal)

Exiting... (End of file)

Is my mplayer output if that's needed.

What have you tried? Do you have the faad2 package installed?

If you're not too attached to mplayer, mpv seems to handle aac files just fine.

Looks to me like you have some LIRC stuff that you need to clear out of your config; as it appears the errors you are getting seem to refer to the remote control stuff.

Knute, those messages are normal and not relevant to this problem.

heldijo, have you tried other aac files?  Mplayer should play them without any additional configuration.  Are you sure this file is good?  That looks like there was no error, there was just nothing in the file to be played.  Do you have sox installed?  If so, what's the output of `soxi Deadman\ Wonderland.aac`?

Do you have any example aac files that fail that we could try?

OH my god I'm so ashamed right now. I'm so sorry to bother you all. It never occurred to me that the audiofiles could be corrupted. Damn I was pretty sure I had tested them before.  *Facepalm*
