No sound after rebooting from windows

I lost my audio after performing pacman -Syu.

System specs:
GIGABYTE GA-H97-D3H
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4460  CPU @ 3.20GHz
Realtek ALC1150
Desktop Cinammon

So far I have downgraded my kernel to 3.16.1-1 from 3.17.6-1 and still no joy. When playing a video with the volume very high I here crackling noises. I've tried the wiki alsa & pa troubleshooting with no luck. Rebooting to windows I get sound and booting a live distro (ubuntu) I get sound.

Any help will be appreciated.

TIA,

Re: No sound after rebooting from windows

You will need to do some investigation and try to give some more details. Are you using pulseaudio?
What is the sound chip?

$ lspci | grep Audio

Any entries in the journal

# journalctl -b --no-pager | grep audio

Is the correct module loaded

$ lsmod | grep snd

thank you for the post

Yes running pulseaudio (gnome & cinammon desktops are installed). My sound card is a Realtek ALC1150.

Re: No sound after rebooting from windows

This looks interesting:

ALSA woke us up to write new data to the device, but there was actually nothing to write

There is a bug report at https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/39186 which refers to a fforum topic at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=177979
One suggested fix is

Editing /etc/pulse/daemon.conf adding the line:

default-fragment-size-msec = 5

But first I suggest that you do a full system update

# pacman -Syu

PS I see two audio controllers, but no Realtek, you seem to be using the Intel one, but maybe I misunderstood.

Hope this helps.

Re: No sound after rebooting from windows

Thanks again for the post. I did pacman -Syu yesterday before downgrading my kernel today with same results, no sound. I'm going to reboot again to live distro and see if the lspci gives same output this evening (@work). Maybe udev being overly helpful, I'll also try editing default-fragment-size-msec = 5 and restart pulse.

I'll post my results,

Re: No sound after rebooting from windows

Could you post the output of aplay -lL   ? (That is a lower case L followed by an upper case L)

Re: No sound after rebooting from windows

I have sound!
The Fix, completely power of machine, Power on. Not a clue why or where to look but it happens after rebooting to windows (not something I do very often, no time for games).

look at comment 20.
