AGPDMA fails to enable for unknown reasons

This seems to happen on a semi-random basis... Either it doesn't happen to begin with and never happens again, or it happens when I first use Xorg and sticks around for a while, possibly disappearing, possibly not. As of yet, I haven't found any cause or any solution. I just get this message in Xorg.0.log:

(EE) VIA(0): [drm] drmAgpAcquire failed 1023
(EE) VIA(0): [drm] Failed to initialize DMA ring-buffer: 1005

and AGPDMA fails to enable, reducing OpenGL performance very significantly. This happens with both the Via and Unichrome drivers. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there any way around it?
