[solved] Linux headers more recent than kernel

I went to upgrade today and saw that linux-api-headers were in the list of upgrades. I thought this was odd since the kernel wan't in there also. I checked and the kernel is still in testing, while the api headers have been moved to core. It just didn't seem safe to run the run the upgrade. Am I worrying about nothing?

[edit] Run upgrade; nothing exploded. Solved.

Yes. linux-api-headers aren't used by the kernel. They're just a build dependency for the toolchain.

Re: [solved] Linux headers more recent than kernel

What's the output of

pacman -Si linux linux-api-headers | grep Version

?

With my current mirror I get

Version : 3.17.6-1
Version : 3.16.2-1

so the headers are trailing the kernel for me. I'm inclined to believe that this is a problem worth reporting on the bug tracker, but I don't know enough to say for sure.

For reference, the latest committed PKGBUILDs are for versions 3.18.1 and 3.18, respectively.

I am no longer inclined as above. wink

Re: [solved] Linux headers more recent than kernel

$ pacman -Si linux linux-api-headers | grep Version
Version : 3.17.6-1
Version : 3.18.1-1

Xyne, did you try running "# pacman -Syy"? Perhaps your database is out of date.

Thanks Falconindy. I have faith in the trusted users, but I still prefer to err on the side of caution (and I didn't know that about the API headers).

My mirror hadn't sync'd yet. The new version showed up by itself shortly after my post. smile
