Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

sudo pacman -S infinality-bundle-fonts
...
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: t1-bh-ib and ttf-bh-ib are in conflict

Is this normal?
Theres no offer to remove the original, since it seems that the conflict is between the two being installed.
I installed it few times before and I think this is the first time I see this.

The output is correct for the command you issued: see More fonts subsection in the Wiki.

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

I want install ALL the fonts available in the repo.
Cal me insane, but, there is a single command to install all (guiving the preference to most complete formats [otf,ttf,t1] for fonts with the same name like otf-fira and ttf-fira) instead of prefetching all individually?

Well, I suppose that this is somekind of signature, no?

No, and I don't really have a clue how this could be made possible in practice… I decided to leave the choice of the font format to users mainly where the upstream officially releases more than one. Some people would rather use TTFs, while others will stick with OTFs: I merely try to support both groups with packages they need.

Is there any chance of getting Jura, Titillium, and Michroma added to the infinality bundle? [all fonts with SIL Open Font Licences]

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

Hello,

I just want to give a big thanks for this font settings.

I was thinking that my Linux was going to look ugly as hell until I installed the package and, c'mon, looks incredibly good.

That must be included as default because the change is really big and only for good.

Thanks a lot!

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

Is intentional that  artwiz-fonts-ibx and tamsyn-font-ibx aren't in the infinality-bundle-font-extra group??
also fira-fonts re now in the repo, you know, for the provide.conflict thing.

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

if somebody freshly adding the repo is getting this error:

# pacman-key -r 962DDE58
gpg: key 962DDE58: public key "bohoomil (dev key) <bohoomil@zoho.com>" imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg:               imported: 1
==> Updating trust database...
gpg: next trustdb check due at 2016-01-22

# pacman-key --lsign-key 962DDE58
  -> Locally signing key 962DDE58...
==> ERROR: 962DDE58 could not be locally signed.

i tried some suggestions, like https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … icial_keys and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … mport_keys - but the error message remained.
after some searching i finally found this bug report:

For an unknown reason the "--lsign-key" option does still not work, but you can do "pacman-key --edit-key (key)" and then "lsign" and select yes for all questions.

voilá!

@nTia89 Noto Sans Syriac Estrangela. It's selected automatically by the browser.

@all Thank you for the feedback. I will try to respond later tonight.

do you mean "ttf-noto-sans-multilang-ib" about 290MB large?

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

$ sudo pacman-key --lsign-key 962DDE58
gpg: key A8429288 was created 4246 seconds in the future (time warp or clock problem)
  -> Locally signing key 962DDE58...

How do I fix this without faking my machines time (which in fact is correct)?

Update:

Fixed by removing the whole key database and reinitializing it.

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

First - sorry for my poor english.
I personally do not see a significant difference on my Arch Linux system between the fonts before and after installation of infinality. I use bohoomil's repo. I remember that years ago after installation of infinality packages, the fonts vision drastically changed. A more rounded, beautiful and soft fonts. Now I do not see such a thing.

Simply tweak the settings to your personal preference, e.g. one of:

export INFINALITY_FT_FILTER_PARAMS="14 20 32 20 14"
export INFINALITY_FT_FILTER_PARAMS="11 22 38 22 11"

And all the other Infinality variables.

@bohoomil: Thank you for the repo and fonts. They are beautiful and make Arch more enjoyable.

Anyway Noto Sans Thaana has been added on 2014-10-22 in this link. Actually I do not use it and do not know how many need it, but for the completeness of multilang support it should be added if you have some free time.

Thanks for the hard works, again!

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

Thank you again for the feedback.

@emacsomancer The good news (I hope OTF is an acceptable format for you): Titillium has been present in the repo for a long time as otf-titillium-ibx. The not-so-good news: I won't add Jura and Michroma. Jura's character support across weight variants is inconsistent in certain scripts; Michroma is just a single font file with a pretty basic (Latin) language support.

Usually, there are four points on my checklist when I decide whether to add a font to the collection: 1) it must be a quality font (it should render well and be bug-free), 2) it must support more than a basic Latin character set (n/a for non-Latin and special purpose fonts), 3) it must be in a certain way representative for a particular style or function, and 4) it shouldn't be a custom fork of an official release. Occasionally, I may pick a family that doesn't meet the criteria, but I really need to have a good reason to do this. (Right now the repository occupies about 800 MB of HDD space: it's already quite a challenge to maintain it.)

@thearcherblog Thank you very much for the kind words!

@Jristz artwiz and tamsyn were added temporarily as a quick workaround for a freetype2 update which broke support for uncompressed pcf fonts. Fira families already come with "conflicts" arrays.

@Hombremaledicto I truly appreciate this. BTW, fantastic shot!

@nTia89 You should really install Noto multilang packages: this is the standard solution to problems like yours.

@Bobolin Did you try setting a different visual style in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.dinfinality-settings? 3-5, as well as breb's hints may be good for you. If not, get the generic infinality-settings.sh and experiment with your custom configuration.

@trungpham Thank you for the info: Noto families are now up-to-date.

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

Hi I was wondering why my steam and mpv status looks so different towards my other system
Specially the numbers in MPV.

If I choose "fc-preset set combi" everything looks good except steam and mvp
but when I choose free/ms my system looks bad but those 2 programs looks good

Any ideas on how I can solve this?

edit: I installed ibfonts and now most things look a lot better except for my chrome browsing font when running free

Re: infinality-bundle: good looking fonts made (even) easier

Hi,

First of all, thank you very much for giving us infinality-bundle!

However I have a small problem. After installing it as per the wiki, I have better fonts, but when I type in Greek, the greek fonts are larger for most applications. For example, I have this problem when I type in the firefox url bar, and in skype, but not when I type in lxterminal:

Any ideas what I should do?

Here is my automatically generated infinality-settings file:

Yes: for your UI, use a font family which supports Greek glyphs natively (Droid Sans for example). The one you're using currently doesn't have them, hence fontconfig offers you one that does, free of charge. :-)

Which `ibfonts` did you install? For best experience, you should go with `ibfonts-meta-extended` and set the preset to `free`. (Don't use `combi`. Use either `free` or `ms`: for the latter, you should have Microsoft fonts installed on your system. Otherwise it does nothing.)
