Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi all, like many others I come from the Debian world using Ubuntu and Mint. For a short time I used Red Hat at work, but for increased productivity I had to switch back to 7 (maybe Red Hat again in the future as it is the "approved" distro at work). I installed Arch on an old netbook and realized getting a base system running is not as horrible as many make it seem. With that said, I converted my daily laptop from Mint to Arch! I have a solid running machine with only 1 or 2 minor issues. I have learned more about Linux the last few days then years of using the Debian variants.

In fact I upgraded my desktop from Ubuntu 12.02 to 14.04 and it seems a bit buggy...maybe time to Arch it as well!

I am excited to finally have an operating system that leaves full control and flexibility to me with out all the added extras!

See everyone around the forums!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi,

I'm WeirdWater, otherwise known as a 20 year old student named Arjo. I have dabbled in Arch for quite a while now, and since my 290x got proper support I decided to start using it more. Previous attempts have led to frustrations in the hardware dept., my old MacBook happened to be a bad apple, my new one has some hardware annoyances of it's own and my desktop didn't like X... until recently.
I love the amount of customization you get with Linux and Arch just allows you to take that to the max. Giving you the foundation to create your own system.
So thanks to the devs for all the amazing work and props to those who update the wiki. It's super helpful smile

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Good Morning!

I actually installed arch almost a year ago. Been dual booting W/&%ds with ubuntu for ages, but decided to try something new when I got a new computer last year. Installing took some time, as I recall (there is sooo much information and sooo many options in the guides...). But now I think I got it nailed down. Put some coffee in my laptop a month ago. Didn't really give it the energy boost that one would have hoped for... No need for you all to repeat the exercise, unless you also want to buy a new HDD.

Reinstalling arch before christmas was way easier than the first time. The forum and guides here are the best I have ever seen! (Took me some time to realize that)

Finally decided to clean out W%&¤/&s as well. Why pollute a virgin HDD?  I sleep better now. Might be the loss of that extra OS burdening my subconcious.

Love Arch. Best OS I ever tried. And the community is its biggest asset, so keep up the good work and keep on contributing with your wisdom!

Hi! I've been using Linux for 4 years now, and I've been using Arch on and off in the past few months! Decided to use it more often, and join the forums because of their fabulous support! Amazing community, really.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello
Loving the complete freedom of what to do with my computer, I decided that ArchLinux is the OS that fits my needs best.
Without really knowing what I was getting into I made my MacBook Pro a dual boot.

Since then my enthusiasm for Arch kept growing. Both because of the Arch way and the great support and amaying documentation in the Wiki.

Looking forward to keep learning, improving and contributing!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone,
If have found that linux is great for most every day tasks. Also it is much easier/quicker and efficent to update than windows using one comand rather than a GUI that only updates the core OS.In addition linux seems to be more fult toldorent than windows.

Arch feeds my hunger to tweak settings and have up to date software.

Hello there guys,

My name is Filipe Machado and I have 19 years old.
I'm living in Portugal and actually a student.
My passions are: Playing bass, listening to music (specially to Jazz and Classical music), Programming (C/C++, Python3, SQL, Qt framework, HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, Lua and Bash) and System Administration/Help desk functions.

Arch Linux is on my daily toolkit for developing using as end-user. By the way, I can tell you that I've been using this GNU/Linux OS for about 3 years of pure joy.
If you have any kind of question related to GNU/Linux, Arch Linux or Programming Languages don't hesitate to ask.
See you around guys!

Thanks,
Filipe Machado

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hey guys,

I wouldn't really call myself an Arch Linux noob, just new to the forums. I'm an obsessive distrohopper(writing this from Fedora 21, at 10:00 today I had Arch and last week I had Fedora big_smile ). I've been using Linux for about 3 years, and Arch for about 1 1/2, installing about once a week, give or take a day, so I could probably install Arch in my sleep cool.

So, to end my post:

'Hello, world!' printNl

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi everyone, my name is Simon and I'm living in Germany.
I recently discovered Arch, mainly by getting google search hits into the Arch Wiki, which is a great source of Linux knowledge!
Until now, I was using Ubuntu- and Mint Linux distros. Now, after discovering "The Arch Way" I definitely need to switch, mostly with the target to learn stuff while setting up and using day by day. I already managed a for me working system in a Virtual Box and will put some more work into it, before actually migrating my production system.
Configuring everything from scratch really is great fun and almost feels like learning computer from scratch. Only this time learning it right (: Feels like back in the 90s when my family got our first PC...

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

I have had an impactful experience as a person as I have been ejected into Arch by Debian. Being a long linux base user I never had to worry about configuration, as I simply required and wanted was plug and play. When my Haskell programming learning came to halt by a bug in my hardware and Debians manners, I landed gracefully on an Arch.

I have installed this wonderful system in my personal laptop, my lil bros chromeBook Acer C710 i847 (johnlewis.ie) and soon on my dinosaur P4 1.5GB RAM.
I thank all the developers for bestowing this grace upon me. My Arch experience thus far has only begun since I had never heard of it before I wanted it for Haskell coding.
So I am also grateful to all the scientists out there for wanting knowledge. Without them technology would not exist. So yeah Jobs, Torvalds, Curry, Griffin, et al. It was and still is for the passion of achieving knowledge that all this wonderful technology exists today. Its been a pleasure to be and become a part of this community. I hope I find my friends here. wink

Hello Everyone!

I just started using Arch. I'm still trying it on a Virtual Machine though. I don't want to do a complete system install and find myself in quicksand.

Hoping to learn a lot.

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hello Everyone,

I've been using Arch on and off in the past two years, running in multiboot environment with Windows and few Linux distributions.
During these two years I had hundreds of questions, but on every single question that I had, I found an answer - mostly on Arch Wiki or here, browsing forum posts.
At begining of this year I decided to use Arch as main OS.

Main reasons for using it: rolling distro, learning, the best wiki , no bloatware, and - again - rolling distro!

Re: The Official Hello Everyone Thread

Hi All

I love Arch! Absolutely! I love the fact it forces me to think and learn, research. I am noob in linux world too, but big fan of it.

I have started with Ubuntu, then after unity migrated to Mint. On and off linux for years as I was always forced to go back to Windows. But recent changes (steam games, Netflix support, Office 365 web) are allowing me to stay with Linux longer. I hope that one day I will be able to get rid of Windows completely, even after it will be available for free.
