Random shutdowns of my laptop

Hi everyone,

as the subject states, since a few days, my laptop shuts down out of the blue. A hard shutdown like pressing the power button for 5 seconds. I couldn't find anything suspicious in the log before the crashes. There were no heavy workload before. Most of the time I was just browsing. Also no overheating. I'm puzzled..
My recent changes: I installed TLP, but the crashes seem to appear mostly in ac mode. (Disabled it to check anyway.) I started using the display-port for a third monitor. I don't experience any (other) problems while using it. I also changed to UEFI mode, but why would that cause a crash hours after booting..? Anyone has a tip where I could search for the error?
Perhaps it's just the kernel version? A hardware error? The laptop is only just 8 month old. Is there a doable way for a comprehensive hardware check of my laptop? I would like to be sure  that something's broken before sending it in..

Thanks for your help.

Re: Random shutdowns of my laptop

I am also seeing crashes like this, perhaps once every two weeks or so.

Have you tried crashkernel yet? See https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/servergui … -dump.html. I just enabled it, but haven't had a crash with it yet.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention: I don't have UEFI or TPL, and only my laptops monitor.
