LightDM and XScreenSaver - .xscreensaver doesn't have any effect

As per the Wiki, in order to get LightDM instead of the old ugly XScreenSaver you must create/edit ~/.xscreensaver, but after doing so I see no changes.

I've restarted my machine several times already without success.

Any ideas what I might be missing and/or doing wrong?

P.S. Everything else LightDM related works without any issues.

Re: LightDM and XScreenSaver - .xscreensaver doesn't have any effect

Are you trying to replace xscreensaver with light-locker (the lightdm screen locking utility)? The link you reference relates to setting up xscreensaver to use the lightdm dm-tool to create/switch to a new user session. If so, uninstall xscreensaver and install light-locker.

However, if you are trying to get xscreensaver to use the dm-tool to enable user-switching (as per the link), try running the command from the terminal window to see what happens:

dm-tool switch-to-greeter

Ah.

Thank you!

Installed light-locker, rebooted (so that it'd start), edited Whisker Menu settings so that the "icon" would execute the right command and it works now. smile
