Input/Output error in external HDD

Good evening there is problem with the HDD of my brother.
In a big transference of data the system (Window 7 ) froze and he was forced to reboot the system causing an error asking to format the HDD when pluged.

[miguel@einstein~]$ lsblk /dev/sdb
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sdb 8:16 0 465.8G 0 disk
└─sdb1 8:17 0 465.8G 0 part /run/media/miguel/DDE500
[miguel@einstein DDE500]$ df -h /dev/sdb1
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sdb1 466G 464G 2.8G 100% /run/media/miguel/DDE500

Baobab shows this:

[EDIT]

There are 192 GB lost and I'm trying to find a way to recover as much as possible.

Any suggerence?

Thanks.

Re: Input/Output error in external HDD

Sounds like the drive is dying, I hope you have everything backed up.

What does SMART have to say about it?

The drive is full.  What makes you think there is more of an issue that that?

Mr. Trilby even if the drive is full in df and lsblk I can't access to 192 GB of information that i'm trying to recover.

Why not?  This is the part you haven't shown us anything about.  How are you trying to access that data?  What errors do you get when you do?

The only error you mentioned was one from Windows.  If you want help troubleshooting Windows errors, this is the wrong place.  If you want help troubleshooting errors reading a drive from linux, you need to tell us about those errors.

Baobab shows an input/error message and only recognize 312 GB from 500GB in use.

Archive managers dont show any file in the most important folder.

[miguel@einstein DDE500]$ ls -al Respaldo/Sesiones\ a\ Entregar/
ls: reading directory Respaldo/Sesiones a Entregar/: Input/output error

Re: Input/Output error in external HDD

Input/output means there's a hardware failure. Get a second drive to restore to and have a look at recovery software such as http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec
