Re: Problem with Nvidia Optimus

It would be good if you post your xorg.conf, .xinitrc or whatever startup script file you are using and the output of lscpi

I put at button on it. Yes. I wish to press it, but I'm not sure what will happen if I do.  (Gune | Titan A.E.)

Re: Problem with Nvidia Optimus

What's the output of

lspci | grep VGA

Also, here is my xorg.conf. It's slightly different than yours, so maybe you can try a few of the difference?

Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "layout"
    Screen 0 "nvidia"
    Screen 1 "nvidia"
    Inactive "intel"
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier "nvidia"

EndSection

Section "Screen"
    Identifier "nvidia"
    Monitor "Builtin"
    Device "nvidia"
    #Option "UseDisplayDevice" "none"
    Option "AllowEmptyInitialConfiguration"

    # Added because KDM would not use the full screen.
    # See: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/702159/331-49-optimus-offloading-graphicsdisplay-with-xrandr-1-4/
    SubSection "Display"

    EndSubSection
EndSection

Section "Device"
    Identifier "intel"

EndSection

Section "Screen"

Re: Problem with Nvidia Optimus

It only shows the Intel card, because the Nvidia one is listed as 3D controller.

With your conf, I get the same error. The problem is this one:

vgaarb: this pci device is not a vga device

I would like to try this patch, but I do not know how to apply it.

Can you help me?

Re: Problem with Nvidia Optimus

Compare

BusID "PCI:1:0:0"

from your xorg config to

01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 750M] (rev a1)

The punctuation of the BusId could be the problem.
Looking at this error message:

Jan 03 05:04:26 egidio-arch gdm-Xorg-:5[368]: (EE) Device(s) detected, but none match those in the config file.

it would at least make some sense. Worth a try wink

Another thing I am wondering about is that lspci says the kernel is using nouveau only. Did you execute lspci via livecd or from your "X crashing" system?

I put at button on it. Yes. I wish to press it, but I'm not sure what will happen if I do.  (Gune | Titan A.E.)

Re: Problem with Nvidia Optimus

You see the nouveau because I reinstalled Arch.

The bus ID was correct. The problem is that vgaarb fails because the Nvidia card is a 3D controller and not a VGA device.

The Xorg message is a generic warning telling you that it tried to apply the configurations, but them all failed.

Re: Problem with Nvidia Optimus

I think that your X is using modesetting instead of nvidia for the driver.

Re: Problem with Nvidia Optimus

What that means? I saw Xorg loading the Nvidia drivers in journalctl.

Re: Problem with Nvidia Optimus

You have kernel drivers and you have xorg-drivers.

Re: Problem with Nvidia Optimus

Well, I strictly followed the wiki. If you have to disable some kernel components it should be written on it.

Re: Problem with Nvidia Optimus

Both drivers should match up.
