tmpfs and encryption

There is a thing that puzzles me: Having an encrypted SWAP is it still necessary to encrypt /tmp given that tmpfs resides anyway just in the RAM and SWAP?

Re: tmpfs and encryption

Why do you think, that only the swap space is an attack vector on your data? A common forensic method is freezing the RAM and extracting the data later.  If your question was whether temporary data can be extracted from an encrypted swap space, then the answer would be - depending on the effectivity of the encryption - no.

Re: tmpfs and encryption

But this would be just possible some minutes after shutdown, wouldn't it?
