small update: in past three months I didn't get any hard freeze.
but I can't say problem is gone because I haven't watched many movies in that period (issue occurred much more when I watched video... ) and especially because I can't reproduce the issue

and you? did you get this problem yet?

Yes, I've consistently had the problem with each of the last couple of  kernel updates (3.17 & 3.18).  Returning to the 3.16 ALWAYS eliminates the hard lockups.   Unless someone has a better idea, I'm just going to wait until the issue (above) has been 'solved', or otherwise addressed...

oh, sad situation...
the best suggestion I can give you is to try to get a log. Because if we know where is the problem we'll have much more capabilities to solve this issue.

PS: have you tried to log via ssh from a working machine to the freezed one?
