Trying to fix pending sector count on Arch

Hi.

I would like to ask for Your help - maybe somebody did this. I have one disk that shows 6 pending sector:

I would like to fix them.

I run smartctl -t short test on this device:

There is an error here. I tried to read and understand this:

But i'm not an programmer, i'm not able to understand how to do a calculation of correct values that need to be specified in order to mark these pending sectors as "offline" or "not to use". Could somebody help me?

I did also:

It appears that since that badblockhowto was written, things have become much easier.
Check https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Badblocks .


Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Heh, it looks that badblock can't detect mentioned "current pending sectors" at all. Test was finished without errors. So, question still remains: what to do, what with error that was reported by smartctl short test, and how to prevent using this bad sector.

Minęło in polish means time that past - minęło 64:33;00 means that 64h of test passed.

In X/0/0 the X means read errors (source). You may find that Current_Pending_Sector is higher after badblocks completes. If it's in the hundreds or thousands, it's probably time to ditch the drive. Otherwise, I think the long test should do the re-allocation:

smartctl -t long /dev/sdX

But even if the Current_Pending_Sector goes to 0 after the long test, I would suggest at least one additional pass of badblocks afterwards.

Also, in order to make the badblocks output a bit cleaner, try something like:

badblocks -sw /dev/sdX >/tmp/badblocks_sdX.out

But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist.

Well, in fact, after 3 passes of badblock my current pending sector dropped from 6 to 2. I still don't know if this "fix" or wathever disk or badblock did, is permament for the time being or do i have something more to do (on archwiki badblock they wrote something about storing "babdlock output" in plain text, than recreating filesystem, in short - to do something in order to system or disk won't use badblock again, like ban it from using, don't know how to proper say it in english - sorry for ii).

You wrote about longtest in smartctl - does it mean that longtest fill fix these badblock, remap them or "block" them from being used? You called it re-allocation. So, it is done by smartctl? I read somewhere that formatting drive under full format on windows does something similar, so smartctl does the job?

Also, after long test do a badblock scan again? Well, it goes around 3 day...Total time is more than 70h so far, still going (i hibernate machine when i have got to go, wake it up after coming home and badblock from suspend work from suspended place). I see that this process is very long to finish - did not expect to run a test for couple of days.

Ok, test ended.

Trying to check correct values in order to find, remap but after all of things that i did, still i see 3 pending sector in smartctl -A /dev/sdh. I rellocated it and it still exists. I thing that i cant calculate correct values. Could somebody help?
