Rather than using the comments sections for both https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/broadcom-wl and https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/broadcom-wl-dkms/ drivers on AUR, please use this thread to help out / report / explore patches to get to a resolution on this issue.

Short description: the broadcom-wl driver causes kernel panics on kernel 3.18. Patches from Ubuntu have been tried but don't seem to work on Arch. There were/are indications this may be a GCC problem, but GCC patches don't seem to work, so that could be a dead end.

Please post a response here with your specific Broadcom card as reported by "lspci -nn" (only the line for the Wifi card) and if your card is 1) experiencing the kernel panic running the broadcom-wl or broadcom-wl-dkms driver on 3.18; 2) working fine with that driver and kernel combination; or 3) if you switched to the b43 driver and that works. This will be a great help troubleshooting and providing workarounds for all affected.

If your card has already been reported here and you have the same results, please don't do a "me too" response, that would just be adding noise. Obviously please respond if your experience is different than previously reported!

Has the kernel panic on 3.18 about a minute after connecting to a network, can exchange some basic traffic in the meantime (ping works). Seems to crash as soon as I start X but sometimes before that (I don't use a display manager). B43 mostly works except it has the occasional freeze-up in the connection you have to disassociate and reassociate to keep it working. As such, I just switched to linux-lts since my netbook works just fine on 3.14 with everything else, so no need to use the current kernel until this is sorted out (or I have something I can try to help sort it out.)

However, I did experience a kernel panic once. I had changed the radio channel of my Wi-Fi AP, and clicked the network name in Network Manager to re-associate; the driver crashed immediately after that.

BCM43228 is not working for me either and in this case b43 is not a solution because it does not support lots of things. The interesting thing is that I use Network Manager and when I have ethernet cable plugged in, the kernel does not segfault. So it seems like it crashes while requesting dhcp server for IP.
Moreover, it might be a kernel problem because I heard that some more drivers crash on 3.18.

I get a panic with

I boot to console, and the panic happens about a second after I log in.

Killing the wifi with the hardware switch and rebooting works fine; now posting this from ethernet.

Edit: This is with the broadcom-wl package, and 3.18.2-2

Success! I don't know why I didn't do that earlier. I haven't tried rebooting or all that exciting stuff, but I installed b43-firmware, modprobe'd b43, and wireless is up and so far working as expected. If anything hairy happens, will report back.

I have a BCM4322 (Rev.1) [14e4:432b] and did *not* experience any lockups yet with broadcom-wl and kernel 3.18. Will test some more and report back if my experience would change.

Affected here. Dropped back to 3.17.6-1 and all is well. Will wait for a fix.

I could connect to the network, but as soon as I tried to put any traffic though it I'd get a kernel panic. Couldn't even run pacman to downgrade. Had to rmmod wl and downgrade via ethernet.

I had Kernel panic with:

while I was trying to get some data through the Wi-Fi (ethernet works fine, ping also works) with yaourt or firefox.

b43-firmware doesn't help me (there was not any wireless device in ip addr).

I've rolled back to 3.17.6, and now broadcom-wl-dkms works fine.

This is not a very common chip so I might as well report it too.

I get a kernel panic. I use the wl driver usually, so i built it again against the new kernel. I've tried brcmsmac and b43, they don't crash but they don't work either. Wired works fine.
