Hey guys,
n00b arch guy, using yellowdog, ubuntu for the last 10 or so years and wanting to get back to something more level, but hopefully not a MAJOR PITA(switched to yellowdog after some horrific dependency loops with redhat back in the day, when I was still building my own kernels).
Anyways, problem here is I haven't shut off the R7 in the a10(not sure if I can from BIOS, and my plan was NOT to hopefully), but installing xserver, gdm, etc.(no access to the boot ATM and hoping for a *DING* you need to do this, etc. but can get the logs later if that doesn't happen) which I THINK is xserver is detecting both the iGPU(R7 kaveri) AND the r9 270 and then has a brain fart(i.e. not detecting where the display is located which is on the r9, but even switching to the r7 ports gets me nada).
So, I guess, any pointers on debugging this as searching turns up TONS of non-applicable results, and add into this my theory of leaving the r7 active or not turned off in BIOS(if I even can) would negate part of my reason for doing this(monkeying with HSA w/o having to get too dirty again, I bootstrapped gcc back in the day and rebuilt everything, so... it's not something that I can't do, it's just something that I hoped was in the past unless I liked wasting my time, which I don't even less so now).
ASUS A88X Pro (latest 12/04/14 BIOS updated this morning hoping hmmm maybe the BIOS was borking things)
3TB SATA3 seagate
16GB (2x8) ADATA 2400MHz @ 2400MHz DDR3 RAM
Sapphire dual R9 270 2GB GDDR5
...and that's it.
I can CTRL-ALT-Fx (x=2 through 7?) to virtual terminals but xorg is no go, complains about radeonfb IIRC which I am sure is because of the iGPU PLUS the R9 270. I haven't tried catalyst yet, hoping for some straws to grasp at before doing that, although I DO eventually probably want catalyst, but for now looking for at least radeon and trying out some of the latest HSA support now that it's finally starting to appear.
Thanks in advance

...hopefully in the meantime this might allow someone to give me a free clue or something?

er... nevermind... no driver ever installed apparently...
I just assumed that as a dependency that at least vesa or card specific OSS driver would at least initially be installed which turns out to not be the case...
ah well, at least I got some pacman cli workout ahead of time.. now to go break more things...
