Since updating to 3.18.2 i got this panic while booting the pc. Doesn't happen all the time. The thing is that this is i915 related and i have the monitor connected to a radeon card. If i remember correctly the setings at the bios have the build in gpu disable if it is not used as a primary card.

Re: Kernel panic during start with 3.18.2

I saw

Comm: Xorg.bin Tainted

You'll need to start the machine without GUI, to find some detail.
Then it's advisable to provide some hardware detail, better about your graphic card.

$ sudo lshw -c display

do it good first, it will be faster than do it twice the saint wink

I use the radeon as my main card since i set up the machine. And usually the machine boots just fine (up until the lxdm screen). Sometimes it crashes at that point with that message.

Better with 3.18.3-1 in [testing]?

Re: Kernel panic during start with 3.18.2

No. No intel related gpu stuff installed neither bumblebee. Its a desktop i don't care about low power.

@graysky. Will wait for the 3.18.3 to hit stable. Most of the times the machine boots fine. Some kind of race condition i suspect.

Re: Kernel panic during start with 3.18.2

Yes. But the intel one is pretty much use less.

Re: Kernel panic during start with 3.18.2

Single igpu machine[1] here, same (quite regular) issue. So far I tried to boot with 'noquiet' it seems to reduce the frequency of the bug (I agree it smells like a race condition)

Re: Kernel panic during start with 3.18.2

I wouldn't be so quick to judge them, maybe it's an unfortunate conflict from new features in the kernel. After all it has been pretty much bug free (this and another one with chromium and accelerated rendering) for a while.

On my crappy little test netbook 3.18.2 boots in a blank screen unless i use nomodeset which renders it useless because i play with wayland on it. Lts on that machine spits an error message in the journal but at least works. And now this thing on my stable machine -which had problems with the intel motherboard bios since the begining.

I honestly doubt i ll go near intel stuff again. hmm

Kernel: 3.18.6-1-ARCH

Seems like nothing is affected but I'm remotely so I cannot check it properly.

My primary VGA is an Intel Graphics but I have a disabled NVIDIA GTX 770 for passthrough on KVM, if it helps.
