Hi,

I've got this pacman output:

looking for conflicting packages...

It looks like one of the conflicting entities (kactivities-frameworks) does not exist (and can't be removed). Any ideas?

Did you answer "yes" to pacman's question?

Probably you try to install something that belongs to plasma-next. They you should answer "yes" (y) on first question. Both packages (kactivities4 and kactivities-frameworks) have the same funcionality and both provides kactivities.
What did you want to install?

The kactivities-frameworks package did not install, so you will not find it in the locally installed database. Use -Si for that.

Other than that, as pb said, KDE frameworks and KDE SC 4 cannot be installed next to each other. See here.

I did not want to install anything. It had to be just a routine upgrade of KDE 4. I never tried to install Plasma 5 or whatever you call it on this box. So I have to get rid of kactivities-frameworks, don't I?

Some of the new packages are moving towards KF5, forcing KF5 to be installed. See this thread.

If you try to upgrade your system, with all or some apps from KDE Applications 14.12.1, then some of them are ported to Qt5/KF5 (Plasma5). Kactivities-frameworks is a dependency for some of them (Gwenview for example). Then if you want to have new version of those packages (see: https://www.kde.org/announcements/annou … 4.12.0.php) you have to replace kactivities4 by kactivities-frameworks. You should answer "yes" for pacman question. If you want to have "pure" KDE4 (Qt4) system, you have to put names of ported applications to IgnorePkg in /etc/pacman.conf (but it's not recomended, I think).

I did, right away. That's what my post is about. I tried it a minute ago, it worked smile . Somebody has corrected something in some package, probably. We'll never know.
